Job Title: Team Manager – Young Persons Team

Type: Ongoing / Full Time

We are seeking an experienced Team Manager to join the Young Persons Team based in Knowsley. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and experienced leader to oversee a dedicated team supporting looked after young people aged 14–18. The successful candidate will provide effective leadership, promote high standards of practice, and ensure positive outcomes for young people through strong partnership working and effective case management.

What You Will Do

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and operational management to the Young Persons Team.
  • Oversee a team delivering services to looked after young people aged 14–18.
  • Support high-quality pathway planning and transition planning for young people preparing for adulthood.
  • Oversee assessments involving 16+ homeless young people and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC).
  • Promote effective safeguarding practice, including an understanding of contextual safeguarding and risks outside the home.
  • Ensure statutory responsibilities, performance standards, and timescales are consistently achieved.
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies to deliver coordinated support for young people.
  • Monitor case quality, provide professional guidance, and promote continuous improvement across the service.
  • Support the development of staff through regular supervision, coaching, and performance management.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work or equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Registered with Social Work England.
  • Significant post-qualification experience within Children’s Social Care.
  • Previous experience managing or supervising social work teams.
  • Experience working with Looked After Children, Pathway Planning, Transitions, UASC, and 16+ Homeless Assessments.
  • Strong knowledge of children’s legislation, safeguarding, and statutory guidance.
  • Understanding of contextual safeguarding and risks affecting young people outside the family home.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organisational, and decision-making skills.
