Job Title: Social Work Assistant – Corporate Parenting Team

Salary: £17.65 Per Hour (Umbrella) / £13.70 Per Hour (PAYE)
Type: Temporary / Full Time (37 Hours) / Hybrid Working

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Social Work Assistant to join the Corporate Parenting Team based in Birmingham. This is an excellent opportunity to support Social Workers in delivering high-quality services to children, young people, and families. Working within Children’s Services, you will undertake direct work with children, contribute to safeguarding and care planning, and help improve outcomes for children in care.

This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum of two days per week in the office, alongside home working and visits to children and families as required.

What you will do

  • Undertake direct work with children, young people, and families under the guidance of a Social Worker.
  • Support children and young people to attend appointments, education, health assessments, and other identified activities.
  • Supervise family time and contact sessions, providing accurate observations and recordings.
  • Complete welfare, wellbeing, and home visits where appropriate.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with children, families, and carers.
  • Assist Social Workers by gathering information to support assessments and care planning.
  • Prepare reports, chronologies, correspondence, and other statutory documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records using electronic case management systems.
  • Liaise effectively with schools, health professionals, police, carers, and other partner agencies.
  • Promote a child-centred, strengths-based approach in all aspects of practice.
  • Identify and report safeguarding concerns in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Participate in supervision, training, and continuous professional development.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children, young people, and/or families.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with children, families, and professionals.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Competent IT skills with experience maintaining accurate electronic records.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Full UK driving licence, access to a vehicle, and business use motor insurance.
