We are seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner to join the Caerphilly East Locality Team within Children’s Services in Caerphilly. This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished social work professional to take a lead role in delivering high-quality statutory services while supporting the Team Manager in the operational management and ongoing development of the team. You will manage a complex caseload, provide professional guidance to colleagues, and work collaboratively with partner agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and families.

What You Will Do

• Manage a complex caseload in accordance with statutory requirements and agreed service timescales.
• Deliver high-quality assessments, interventions, and care planning to improve outcomes for children and families.
• Support and deputise for the Team Manager in the operational management of the team when required.
• Provide supervision, mentoring, and day-to-day guidance to Social Workers, Students, Volunteers, and Support Workers.
• Chair planning meetings, core groups, and other multi-agency meetings as required.
• Allocate work and oversee operational functions during the Team Manager’s absence.
• Work collaboratively with partner agencies to deliver coordinated, outcome-focused support.
• Prepare high-quality reports for court, panels, and statutory meetings, providing evidence where required.
• Promote best practice, contribute to service development, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and professional standards.

Essential Requirements

• Degree in Social Work or equivalent recognised qualification.
• Registered with Social Care Wales (or eligible for registration).
• Minimum two years’ post-qualification experience within Children’s Social Care.
• Experience managing complex cases and undertaking statutory assessments.
• Experience supporting, mentoring, or supervising staff within a social work setting.
• Experience of multi-agency working and chairing professional meetings.
• Court experience within Children’s Services Locality Teams.
• Strong knowledge of current children’s legislation, statutory guidance, and evidence-based practice.
• Excellent communication, leadership, report-writing, and decision-making skills.
• Full UK Category B driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use.
