Job Description

Approved Mental Health Professional – Pembrokeshire County Council

Pembrokeshire County Council is looking for a dedicated and experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join the Adult Mental Health and AMHP Team based at Bro Cerwyn CMHT. This role focuses on delivering high-quality mental health services, supporting individuals experiencing acute mental health crises, and championing the Social Model within secondary mental health services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Mental Health Act (MHA) assessments in a range of settings across Pembrokeshire.
  • Respond flexibly and promptly to MHA assessment requests, including outside of standard office hours.
  • Complete Section 117 aftercare reviews and other statutory duties as directed by the Service and Team Managers.
  • Collaborate effectively with health and social care partners to ensure timely and proportionate responses.
  • Uphold and promote the Social Model of mental health within secondary mental health services.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker (QSW) registered with Social Care Wales.
  • Current AMHP warrant and recent experience conducting Mental Health Act assessments (within the past five years).
  • Strong knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and subsequent amendments.
  • Ability to manage complex situations with confidence, demonstrating excellent risk assessment and decision-making skills.
  • A flexible approach to working patterns, including availability for assessments outside of standard working hours.

Additional Information:

  • Base: County Hall, Pembrokeshire (flexibility to work in multiple locations with travel reimbursement available).
  • Full-time: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:30, with flexibility for out-of-hours assessments).
  • Inside IR35.
