We are seeking an experienced Children’s Senior Practitioner to join the UASC and Pathways Team in Shrewsbury. This is a combined role supporting 16+ Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) and young people within the Pathways Team.

The role sits within the Children Looked After Service and involves undertaking statutory social work responsibilities, progressing care and pathway plans, completing assessments and supporting children and young people to access the right level of service at the right time.

The initial assignment is for 3 months, with a review.

Hybrid Working

The role offers hybrid working, with office attendance at The Guildhall in Shrewsbury. Travel within Shropshire will be essential, including visits where required.

What You Will Do

Assessment and Direct Intervention: Undertake a range of assessments informed by direct intervention with children and families.

Care and Pathway Planning: Progress children’s care and pathway plans, ensuring they access the appropriate level of service at the right time.

Statutory Visits: Undertake statutory visits to children placed at home, in foster care and within residential provisions in accordance with Children Looked After requirements.

Case Management: Manage cases and coordinate a range of meetings, including care planning, risk management, placement stability, PEPs and review meetings.

Court Work: Undertake relevant court work, including matters relating to revocation of care orders, Special Guardianship Orders and placement order applications, where required.

Information and Advice: Provide children and families with appropriate information and advice to assist in resolving problems.

Duty System: Participate in the team’s duty system.

Recording and Documentation: Maintain accurate computerized records and documentation in accordance with approved policies and procedures.

Collaborative Working: Work collaboratively with parents, guardians and other professionals to support positive outcomes for children and young people.

Requirements

• Experience working within Children’s Services.
• Experience of working with Children Looked After.
• Ability to undertake statutory visits, assessments and care/pathway planning.
• Ability to manage cases and coordinate multi-agency meetings.
• Full UK driving license and access to your own vehicle are essential.
• Ability to travel within Shropshire for visits where required.
• Availability to work within the UASC and Pathways Team supporting young people aged 16+.
• The initial assignment is 3 months, with a review.
